Overview
The high voltage isolation switch mainly plays a safety role in the power grid.Its task is to open and close circuits under no load to achieve the purpose of power outage maintenance and circuit conversion.
In the closed state, the high voltage isolation switch can reliably pass the rated current and carry the short-circuit current; in the open state, it forms a clearly visible isolation fracture with reliable insulation, so that the lines that need to be repaired or segmented are isolated from the live lines. Ensure the safety of maintenance personnel and line equipment.
Since the high voltage isolation switch does not have a special arc extinguishing device, it usually only opens and closes lines when there is no load.But when some special use cases, such as switching buses, switching off no-load transformers and no-load buses, etc., it should also be able to separate and combine the bus conversion current (circulating current), the excitation current of the no-load transformer, and the capacitive current of the no-load bus, etc.
Each phase of the high voltage isolation switch structure consists of a chassis, a pillar insulator, a blade, contacts and other parts. There are screws on the side of the blade to adjust the contact pressure and a spring for compression. The upper end is equipped with a fixed pull buckle and a self-locking device connected to it, which is used for opening and closing of the insulated hook rod.

Operation of high voltage isolation switch
High voltage isolation switches ,or disconnect switches, are designed to isolate parts of an electrical circuit by interrupting the flow of electrical current. Unlike circuit breakers, which are meant to protect circuits from overload, high voltage isolation switch is operated manually or remotely to ensure safety during maintenance or inspection. Their operation is straightforward yet critical; by physically separating contacts within the switch, they create an air gap that ensures no current can flow through the circuit being serviced.
The design of these switches varies depending on their application but typically includes rotating, sliding, or swinging mechanisms to open or close the electrical circuit.
They must withstand the high voltages they control, often involving sophisticated insulation and arc suppression technologies to manage the electrical discharges that occur during operation.
