What is a DNH19 DC Main Switch Disconnector ?
DNH19 DC main switch disconnector is used to complete or interrupt the flow of DC electricity. This electrical device is crucial for safety and compliance because once properly installed, the DC disconnector can carry out a fast and easy way to shut down a renewable energy system.
The DC isolator switch can make the main circuit connect and disconnect infrequently and play the role of disconnection.
DNH19 applies to the energy storage, power and construction industries. GRL provides 100A, 125A, 160A, 200A, 250A, 315A, 400A, 500A, 6800A, 1000A, 1250A and other rated currents. Usually, power lines with a rated voltage of DC1000V and below can be used.
Can I use a DC Main Switch for AC?
Before we discuss whether a DC Main Switch works as an AC switch, we think it’s best to get the exact switch that meets your needs first. There are many conditions that affect whether a DC switch can be used as an AC switch, such as structure, internal configuration, and use environment.
Sometimes a “DC” switch of the appropriate voltage rating is fine for AC. (DC current is usually more difficult to interrupt). AC rated switches are not necessarily suitable for use on DC unless it is specified.
For GRL DC 1000V, DNH19 DC switch can be used as AC switch disconnector for 1000V and below. For example,DNH19-630/4 refers to 630A DC1000V,but it’s OK with 630A AC 1000V too.
GRL design the DNH19 based on GRL AC switch disconnector HGL series that only increased arcing piece. However, if the manufacturer use magnet to blow out the arc, then the solar disconnect switch cannot be used as AC switch disconnector.
If the DC Main Switch disconnector is connected with AC circuit then the lorentz force directions will not only be upward or downward.
In fact the lorentz force direction will be all around which will cause the arc cannot be extinguish safely.
Can I use AC switch for DC?
Sometimes, the answer is Yes. But keep in mind that lower voltage D.C. will be higher current. The switch has to be rated for the appropriate current.
You might find some switches have both AC and DC voltage. AC voltage is generally higher than DC voltage controlled switch if a switch is verified in both AC and DC voltage.
Because AC’s zero crossings provide an inherent point at which it can self-extinguish arcs. In this condition, the AC switch can be used as DC Main Switch.
Look up the datasheet of your switch. If it doesn’t specify the DC rating, don’t use it for DC just out of precaution. It was not tested for DC and you’re not getting a manufacturer’s guarantee of what it can handle.
